Between boards and clinics, the Dr. Glass Team has had their hands full, but now the gloves are off!
Our goal thus far has been to create something new every two months, and so far we have been able to keep this up. However, we’re planning to up the intensity and direction in order to bring more Dr. Glass content to light. We are very proud of this effort so far, but we are mostly proud of our fan support.
For over 10 months now, the Dr. Glass DPM Podiatry Resource Network has been committed to offering clear and open learning into the world of podiatric medicine. In that time we’ve received over 25,000+ hits to our YouTube.com content, and over 4,000 hits to our website. (Clearly we must be doing something right).
We are always listening to your feedback, and thank you for helping us improve our content to better serve the community. Feel free to contact us at glass.dpm@gmail.com for any and all comments or suggestions.
Thank you!

For starters, we’ve been adding our videos to the Digg.com community. Some of you have probably noticed these little “Digg Button” counters next to our video podcast entries. What these are is a small link between the content on our site and the internet’s popularity boards.
How it works, is that people essentially vote on what they like or find interesting. These internet social bookmarks can be anything from videos, images, news articles, etc. If you’d like to see what the digg.com community is all about, head over to www.digg.com and try it out for yourself, and of course, make sure to vote on Dr. Glass stuff :)
The DrGlassDPM YouTube.com channel has been very helpful for us as well. We’ve actually received over 3,000 hits to our videos. What’s cool about having a YouTube.com account, is that you can have all your videos pushed into one custom channel player. We have this player installed on our homepage, and it always shows the latest creation. In terms of popularity, 3,000 hits is also a pretty good start for something as specialized as podiatric medical illustrations.
In terms of new expansions... We’re looking into providing some new content media formats. Without putting the cart before the horse, we would like to say that we believe evidence based medical journals are an important education tool, for podiatry, that the Dr. Glass DPM team is looking forward to committing towards. Please feel free to e-mail us at glass.dpm@gmail.com if you have any questions or suggestions for this next endeavor.
And finally, we’ve included a high-res desktop image as an attachment for this feed article. This image features the foot model, (our pride and joy) in a somewhat timeless setting deserted setting. We just wanted to give a little something back to our community who has been so supportive of us along the way. We hope you enjoy it. -Cheers!

This conference was the first student-run event to offer members of all the 8 American podiatric medical colleges and the Canadian Podiatric Medical College in Quebec the opportunity to present research posters in a constructive arena.
Benjamin Carelock, with his poster titled "Osseous Changes in the Forefoot of Indoor Rock Climbers," earned the Arizona Podiatric Medical Program the honorary first place trophy, while second place was awarded to Christy King and James Johnston from the California School of Podiatric Medicine, and the 3rd place prize went to Krupa Patel from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.
The conference itself kicked off with a keynote address about "Vision 2015" by Dr. Ross Taubman (APMA President-Elect). Conference goers were then welcomed to attend numerous lectures and presentations ranging from topics such as Diabetic Wound Care, Biopsy Techniques, Vascular Intervention, and Surgical Innovations. These lectures were accompanied by several hands on workshops from a variety of specialty tracks. By breaking guests into smaller rotation groups, these sessions offered attendees the opportunity to experience a wide sampling of the most current advancements in podiatric medical care.
With over a dozen corporate sponsors and participants, the First Annual IPCSRS proved to be a "one of a kind" event in podiatric medical education. "We are grateful to have received such participation from our sponsors," said Samir Lalani in his closing remarks. The NYCPM Student Association President then went on to say, "However, this event could not have been possible without the amazing support we received from Dr. Anthony Iorio. Without his help and guidance, this symposium would never have happened."

We ended up being split for the various events in the Podiatric Medical World.
For starters, Shane and Kelly were attendees at the annual 2008 New York Podiatric Clinical Conference. This conference is considered the largest podiatric event in the state of New York. The conference is hosted by the New York State Podiatric Medical Association.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the NYC area, this is held at the NY Marriott Marquis on Broadway’s Times Square. Aside from a large sea of booths, registered attendees were welcomed to dozens of lectures and workshops.
While this was going on, Nick was attending the 2008 Mid-winter House of Delegates meeting for the APMSA. On behalf of the NYCPM Delegation, the APMSA’s is making efforts have a larger presence in the world of medical podcasting.
We’re still trying to work out the finer details of it all, but it appeared to be fairly well received. Of course we we will keep you updated as progress is made!

This one is titled, “Ankle Joint Complex.” The video has been added to our podcast feed, but you can watch the youtube version @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R4zRSE_-40
Speaking of our podcast, we’ve decided to put all of our series tracts in one feed. This makes things more convenient for everyone that way. So our “Functional Orthopedics” and “Surgical Survey” can both be found in the same subscription.
As for “Surgical Survey,” the above picture is a screenshot of latest proof of concept for that tract. We plan on showing a number of different procedures, so bone cuts and fixation are a needed element to those illustrations.
As for the site itself, we’ve made a few spot changes and updates, but nothing to intense. Well... not for now at least. :)

This illustration is where we decided to improve our foot and leg model by adding a “rig” as they say in the animation world.
Essentially, rigging an object is like specifying the moving parts and having them move together in virtual space. Like any model or doll, moving an arm, also moves the hand which is distal to it. But a good rig involving inverse kinematics as well, will allow the animator to control the entire arm by only lifting the puppet’s wrist.
In our case we’re using a foot with individual bones. As stated, this has proven to be a bit of a headache for us so far. But we’ve received some very helpful feedback from the CGSociety.com’s forums over at CGTalk.com. Ultimately, rigging our foot and leg model has taken a majority of our time in this production and we’ve still got a few kinks to work out like key-framing and camera movements. So stay tuned.
We’re including a preview of the animation so far. As you can tell, some of the bones and joints aren’t moving as one would expect, but we’re hard at work fixing these issues before the final release. We’ve got our work cut our for us, so stay tuned for the final product.
For those of you subscribing to this newsfeed with a RSS aggregator, you’ll most likely have to visit our actual site’s page to see the video.
